Federer and Djokovic are no strangers to one another, having met 19 times in the past. Federer has prevailed in 13 of these encounters, while Djokovic has taken 6 wins. All 6 of Djokovic’s wins have been achieved on hard courts.

The last meeting between these players was at the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals, where Federer scored an easy 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Roger Federer is getting better match by match, and comes into the 2011 Australian Open semifinals on the back of a straight sets victory over fast-improving compatriot, Stanislas Wawrinka, in the quarterfinals.

Federer’s dropped three sets on his way to the semifinals, but a shaky start is largely responsible for these, and he looked his usual clinical self as he put Wawrinka away without having his serve broken.

Novak Djokovic also reached the 2011 Australian Open quarterfinals courtesy of a straight sets victory, beating Tomas Berdych 6-1, 7-6, 6-1.

Djokovic has looked self assured in Melbourne to date, and looks to have benefited from his decision to start his season with the Australian Open. The Serb also benefitted from a walkover win against Victor Troicki, and will bring a full tank of gas into this fixture.
