The Miami Masters (currently sponsored by Sony Ericsson) is an annual tennis tournament for men and women held in Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida. It is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour and is played onhard courts at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park. The tournament is currently held in March each year.
The Miami Masters, which has had multiple sponsorships, was initially known as the Lipton International Players Championships and was a premier event of the Grand Prix Tennis Circuitfrom 1985 until 1990. In 2000, there was a change of title sponsor and the event was renamed theEricsson Open. In 2002, the event became known as the NASDAQ-100 Open. In 2007, the tournament was renamed the Sony Ericsson Open in a deal where the company will pay US$20 million over the next four years.
In 2010, a record 300,000 visitors attended matches at the 12-day Sony Ericsson Open making it one of the largest tennis tournaments outside the four Majors.[1]

It would be an ultimate battle between Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer, as they will be battling today in the semi-finals of the hard court event of 2011 Sony Ericsson Open which will be played at 23:05 GMT on 1st April, 2011 in Crandon Park, Key Biscayne Florida.
The world No.1, Rafael Nadal will be clashing for the fist time this year in Miami against the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the Miami Masters 2011, the two top seeded players, who played their first match against each other in the Miami in the year 2004, will be once again battling, in order to advance the finals of the Sony Ericsson Open 2011.
Earlier on Thursday, 31st march, 2011, both the players defeated their competitors in their quarter-finals clash, where the top seeded player and the world No.1, Nadal has thrashed out the world No.7, player Tomas Berdych in a three set thriller 6-2 3-6 6-3 and Federer, the Swiss maestro and the world No.3 has entered into the semi-finals without any trouble from his opponent, Gilles Simon, retired with a stiff neck trailing 0-3.
A two-time winner here, the Swiss has appeared in three finals at Crandon Park, and is looking to get back into the championship match for the first time since 2006, when he repeated as the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami champion by defeating Ivan Ljubicic in three tie-break sets.
It was not known at the time, but Federer advanced to play World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. The two giants of the past decade played their first two head-to-head meetings in Miami in 2004 and 2005, but haven’t met each other in the United States since Federer defeated the Spaniard in the final here six years ago. Back then Federer overcame a two-sets-to-love-deficit to win the title.
However, the world No.1 player, Nadal, who is aiming for his first title in his career in Miami Masters has a match winning streak record of 15-8 against Federer. It would be an ultimate battle as both the players will clash in the semi-finals berth at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open.
